A Sneak Peek into his early life.
Born on 20th October 1990 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, NBA Youngboy was originally named Kentrell DeSean Gaulden. His maternal grandmother raised Gaulden as his father was in prison. He dropped out of school when he was in 9th grade and started pursuing music. He was involved in several petty crimes to help him raise money. He began making music at the age of fourteen using a microphone he bought at the local store. In 2015 he released his first mixtape called Life Before fame. This Louisiana native started becoming a famous name in the world of Rap and Hip Hop between 2015 to 2017.
Garnering A Cult Following
Youngboy NBA released eight independent mixtapes online and locally, which earned a steady and growing fan following. Atlantic Records took up the distribution of his two additional mixtapes. One of these mixtapes “Outside Today” went onto become the highest-charting solo single of his. It also peaked up to the number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was the lead single for his debut studio album Until Death Call My Name, which was released in April 2018. His other famous singles include Valuable Pain, Slime Belief, and Genie.
The year 2019 saw the release of his fourteenth mixtape AI Youngboy2, which topped the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his first chart-topper. This album also included his singles “Self-Control,” “Slime Mentality,” and “Make No Sense.” The song called Bandit with his fellow rapper Juice Wrld also made it to top 10 on Billboard 100 chart making it his highest-charting single.
His songs also seem to have a lot of guest appearances by notable artists such as Lil Baby, Meek Mill, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Boosie Badazz, and so on.
